Battle of first place teams

Ok so here we are sitting a 4-0. One of two teams that can say that. First time since 1992, that this team is undefeated going into an October game. And this week we get the banged up Arizona Cardinals, who are coming off a very interesting game against the Jets. They scored over 30 points, piled up yardage, but were still beaten by over 20 points because Brett Farve carved them up for 6 touchdown throws. And Kurt Warner kept giving the Jets the ball back a lot. So onto my comparisons….
At QB you have a former super bowl winning MVP in Kurt Warner, and you have a veteran of a handful of games in Trent Edwards. Right now Trent Edwards is winning games by not making mistakes, and Kurt Warner looks like he is not thinking about winning games and just going for stats. His stats might look better, but his mistakes are costly and I would rather have the brainy QB then the gutsy one.
EDGE: Bills
Ok so I have been calling for Marshawn to bust out for a big game every week, and even though his numbers are ok, I still think he can do better. Edgerrin James is still running with authority averaging nearly 4 yards per carry. Both teams have capable backups. I think Marshawn still has more in the tank then the Edge.
EDGE: Bills
The Bills are catching a break here because the Cardinals are going to be without wide receiver Anquan Boldin due to a fractured sinus cavity. But that still leaves the Cards with one of the top receivers in the game in Larry Fitzgerald. The Bills have a playmaker in Lee Evans and their other receivers are picking up the pace nicely, but I still think that Fitz gives the Cards the edge here.
EDGE: Cardinals
While the Bills O-line is still seeming to struggle out of the gates, and isn’t paving the way for Lynch to run all over any teams, the Cardinals are letting their quarterbacks be used as tackling dummies. Mike Gandy is the left tackle; Jason Peters is ours…I think that pretty much sums it up.
EDGE: Bills
Bertrand Berry leads the Cardinals D-line against the Bills and Marcus Stroud…wait there is a chance that Marcus Stroud might not be able to play. If he doesn’t that will be a huge hole that we have to fill, because he has been playing like a man beast. Aaron Schobel needs to pick up his production if he wants to live up to the $50 million contract he signed.
EDGE: Bills (if Stroud is out, this is a real close call)
I love the way the Bills linebackers are playing. I think that we need to go back to being super aggressive and blitzing these guys more, but you know what it is working right now so I wouldn’t bother messing with it. Poz is going to be a star.
EDGE: Bills
Terrence McGee is out for this weeks game meaning that the Bills will be without one of the top corners in the league (Just my opinion). In his place Ashton Youboty and Leodis McKelvin will split time, and from the little I have seen of McKelvin and the great play so far of Youboty, I have no fears. Antrel Rolle is a good safety back there for the Cards, but they did just get torched for 6 touchdown passes so something isn’t quite right here.
EDGE: Bills
Coaching edge has to go to Jauron right now. He is in the early running for coach of the year by taking a team that was just supposed to compete and turning it into a true contender. Ken Whisenhunt is going a good job in Arizona and has his team primed for a run for their division, but I still gotta give love to Jauron.
EDGE: Bills
Special teams haven’t been as truly awe inspiring as of late, but I still think that the Bills unit is one of the tops in the league. Both of our kickers are helping us win games, and no matter who gets the return, they are doing good things with it. Our coverage could use some improvement but there young and will catch on soon. Steve Breaston is a good return man, and could potentially break one if given the chance.
EDGE: Bills
So once again the Bills are taking a majority of the position battles here, and I once again think they will walk away with a W. I am calling this one a shoot out with the Bills making just enough stops to win it 41-31. I see Lynch getting two touchdowns to make up for taking the last game off. James Hardy, Lee Evans, and Josh Reed are all going to see the end zone, and Rian Lindell is going to put 2 through the uprights to complete the scoring. I see the defense taking the ball away a few times helping to take control of this game early. GO BILLS!!!
