Week 2 – The Jags – Part One

Ok so after a rousing week of optimism and celebration over the Bills opening day drumming of the Seahawks, it is time to get back to business with a look at the game against Jacksonville. The Jaguars are a good team, but as we saw last week, good teams can be beat, and the Jags were beat by the Titans, a team that I feel is no better then the Bills.
So with that in mind, let’s look at the position battles…
Last week I picked against Trent Edwards and boy did he prove me wrong. This week his match up is a little easier for him since he is squaring off with David Garrard, who last week looked very shaky but has proven that he is a quarterback that will not usually lose you a game. The match up is very close, both quarterbacks look to keep their teams in it and let the running game do a lot of the work, but I will have to give the edge to Edwards because last week he didn’t have any turnover, compared to Garrards 3 turnovers (2 INT’s and a fumble)
EDGE: Bills
Marshawn Lynch looked good running last week, and seemed to have very good vision of the field, especially on the touchdown run. I would defiantly give him the edge as a starting back, but unfortunately this week, I am going to have to give the edge in the combined backfield to what I consider a very complete package presented by the Jaguars. Fred Taylor is a back that has constantly been overlooked throughout his career but just because some people don’t rate him very high, doesn’t mean that he can’t hurt you. He is able to pound out the hard yards when needed. And his backup is Maurice Jones-Drew, who could easily be a starter in a lot of backfields throughout the league. Don’t get me wrong, I love Lynch, but when the Bills give him a breather, the talent level drops considerably and the Jags don’t have that problem.
EDGE: Jaguars
I have to be honest, other then hearing about Matt Jones getting arrested for cocaine possession in the off-season, and vaguely hearing something about Jerry Potter, I really don’t know much about the Jags wide receivers. They do have a pretty good tight end in Mercedes Lewis, but the Bills showed that Robert Royal does know how to catch a ball, and Lee Evans looked happy. I do have to ask if there is an APB out on James Hardy, you know that real tall guy that was supposed to help the Bills passing game this year? Did he even see the field last week?
EDGE: Bills
The Jaguars offensive line took a hit this week when it lost both of their starting guards to injury. The Bills look to gain a HUGE and I repeat HUGE piece of the puzzle this week with the addition of Jason Peters. I think this one speaks for itself.

Once again this will be a two piece post just to keep you guys wanting more….and please comment with your opinions of questions about my opinions and I will try my best to defend myself….
