So what else can you say about that game other then WOW! The Bills came out firing on all cylinders….well it tooksome time but eventually it got to that point. And I stick by my last post about special teams when I say no other team in this league is going to have better all around special teams play than the Bills. They directly contributed 20 points to this game, and caused and recovered a fumble that led to another 7 points.

On offense the Bills looked like a team that knows what they can and cannot do, and didn’t try to over exert themselves. They pounded with Lynch early and often and he seemed to get better the later the game went on. Trent Edwards looked solid behind the offensive line that played mistake free, The only sack allowed today was a good coverage sack and those are ok. Lee Evans cant complain about not getting the ball enough, as it seemed that he was the only receiver playing today. He ended up with 4 catches for 102 yards. The other person that was out there and catching balls was Robert Royal who is hoping to show that he can live up to the hype, and he showed that and more with a very respectable 6 catches for 52 yards and a TD.

The defense looked amazing! Me and my cousin were sitting around talking about last years Superbowl and how it might have exposed what you can do to the Patriots, and he said yeah you can rush them but only the Giants, and maybe two other teams can put that much pressure on a quarterback. Well about half way though the third quarter, it struck me….we are one of those teams right now. There wasn’t a play where the Bills were not getting someone in the backfield to disrupt the entire flow of the offense. Marcus Stroud looked like the stud he was for the Jags, and could be a similar acquisition to the Bills getting Cornelius Bennett right before the big Superbowl run. I know that might sound a little too hopeful, but we will get into what I think about the league later today.

And now on to coaching and special teams….PERFECT! Everything they did was perfect, from Brian Moorman’s passer rating to the blocking on Roscoe Parrish’s highlight reel return. Parrish set a single-game team record with 120 yards in punt returns, and has now returned punts for TD’s in the last two opening day games. On his return, the thing that amazed and excited me was that the blockers never stopped moving, they followed the play and kept getting people out of his way. He looked to be wrapped up and stopped 2 or 3 times but kept running and kept grinding and eventually was sprung by some nice take out blocks. And onto the play that changed the game, a fake field goal that could not have gone any better. I know it is a trick play and everything but how in the heck do you leave a man just sitting on the sideline uncovered, where was someone to call a timeout or someone to just run over there and get on him. The was amazing, and then to follow it up with a forced fumble that Rian Lindell went to the bottom of a pile to recover was amazing. I said this unit could win us some games, they didn’t do it all by themselves this game but they certainly helped.

In my mock up of the teams, I gave the edge to Seattle in terms of coaching. I stick by that because I like Mike Holmgren but in this one he was out coached in all aspects of the game. Dick Jauron, Bobby April, Perry Fewell, and Turk Schonert all deserve to be mentioned as all of them did exactly what they wanted to do. The fake field goal was called at the exact right time, and then when we got the ball right back on the fumble recovery, we went for the jugular by calling the TD pass to Royal. On defense, the Bills gave them so many looks that the Seahawks looked lost and never really got it going. When they needed a big stop they got one, plain as that.

All in all a very good week 1 and with everything else that happened around the league, it could get very interesting, very quick. I will be back later tonight with a run down of week 1 action, and a little baseball talk to get me through the day!
