Lee Evans, Chris Kelsey, Brian Moorman, Trent Edwards, Donte Whitner, and George Wilson look to lead the Bills to an opening day victory against the visiting Seattle Seahawks. I mention these 6 individuals because you’re looking at the names of the 6 Captains picked by the players to lead our Buffalo Bills!
The Bills are coming into this season without a lot of hopes and a lot of expectations resting on their shoulders. This team didn’t lose any major pieces in the off-season, and with Paul Posluszny coming back from injury and having acquired two potential difference makers in Kawika Mitchell and Marcus Stroud, the Bills defense is primed to move into the top echelon of the league.
The offense is once again going to be led by the trio of Trent Edwards, Lee Evans, and Marshawn Lynch, and that is not a bad thing. Evans and Lynch are considered stalwarts at their respected positions and while Edwards might not have the national recognition of the other two, he has shown last year and this pre-season, that he is a very capable quarterback that will not allow his team to get killed on his account. James Hardy, the Bills 2nd round pick in this years draft, is the type of big receiver that the Bills have so desperately needed.
The special teams unit is sure to be one of the top ranked in the league again this year. Not only do they have two of the most dangerous return men returning kicks again for them this year, Terrence McGee and Roscoe Parrish, they went out and added another dynamic weapon in the form of 1st round selection Leodis McKelvin. McKelvin showed his brilliance many times this preseason and looks to be another dominant force for a special teams unit that really didn’t need the help, but will be more then happy to have it.
Now onto the only real negative hanging over the heads of Bills fans right now (we’ll leave Toronto out of this for the time being), and that is Jason Peters. I believe that he is one of the true great offensive tackles in the league and completely agree that he is underpaid in terms of how much other professional athletes get paid. But while I think he should be getting paid more, he is going about this like a spoiled brat, basically sitting in the corner until the parents finally give in. I applaud the Bills for saying that until you get your butt out of the corner, we aren’t budging. Unfortunately that also leaves the Bills with a very large hole to fill on the offensive line. I just hope that both sides cave in a little and find a nice middle ground, because with Jason Peters, this team has a good playoff shot, but without him I am afraid for Trent Edwards’s life…..
Stay tuned for this weekends focus on OPENING DAY!!!!
