A game that started out looking like a shootout ending with a rookie running back stealing the show as Marshawn Lynch threw for a touchdown and ran for another in the 4th quarter as part of a 153-yard rushing day helping Buffalo to a 33-21 victory over Cincinnati at Ralph Wilson Stadium.

As is the usual day for Lynch, he was grinding out yards early, but trailing 21-19 in the fourth quarter, Buffalo showed great trust in their rookie back. The Bills featured back carried six straight times for 22 yards and a pair of first downs before tossing a halfback option pass on 2nd-and-goal from the eight-yard line to Robert Royal for the go ahead score to put Buffalo up 26-21 with 5:51 remaining. The Bills came out in a power look baiting the Bengals defense into thinking run all the way, and the trick play worked to perfection with a relatively good looking spiral coming from Lynch. It was the first touchdown pass by a non-quarterback since Joe Cribbs threw a touchdown pass to Curtis Brown at Dallas on Nov. 9, 1981.After the Bills defense stiffened and sent Cincinnati four-and-out on the following possession, Lynch added an exclamation point to the Bills victory. On a 1st-and-10 from the Bills 44-yard line, Lynch broke away from three would-be tacklers and broke down the near sideline for a 56-yard touchdown run to put the game away. Lynch finished with a career-high 153 yards on 29 carries with a touchdown rushing as well as a touchdown pass. It was the first 100-yard rushing day of his career. The Bills offense got off to a fast start as the J.P. Losman to Lee Evans chemistry was going good early and often. Losman, who finished the game 24 of 34 for 295 yards a touchdown and an interception and a passer rating of 94.6, hit Buffalo’s top wideout on the second play from scrimmage for a 38-yard gain. On the ensuing play Losman hit Evans again for a 19-yard gain to set up 1st-and-10 at the Bengals 18-yard line. And to cap the opening drive, Losman hit Evans in the back left corner of the end zone for a 7-0 lead. Evans finished the day with 9 catches for 165 yards and that opening touchdown. The Bills defense and special teams played decently well considering that they were playing a high powered offense led by one of the best quarterbacks in the league and one of the top wide receiver duos in the league. The Bengals had two long scoring drives, both being capped by Carson Palmer touchdowns, but the Bills shutdown the Bengals when it counted in the fourth quarter. The special teams gave up a 100 yard kickoff return for a touchdown but take that one mistake out and they gave the Bills the field position advantage with good returns and good coverage throughout the day. So now we sit at 4-4 and there is actually a reason to look at the standings throughout the league. JP Losman looked good enough to earn himself another start next week against Miami. He did a lot of good things by checking down and not always forcing the ball to covered receivers, but there were a few balls that JP should not have thrown. To start off the game he bounced the ball to Josh Reed, he threw a very dangerous rainbow looking to hit Roscoe Parrish deep down the field, and on the interception, it looked like he just under threw the ball that if it had been thrown on target would have been a sure touchdown. JP did do something that he hadn’t been doing in the first games of the year by looking to the tight ends and running backs early and quite often hitting his check downs  8 times including a nice play action pass on 3rd and 1 where he found Robert Royal for a 27 yard gain. Jauron was his usual self by saying that we will find out who the quarterback will be on Wednesday of this week so until then…..

LET’S GO BUFFALO!!! SQUISH THE FISH!!!!
